You booked the tan. You showed up exfoliated, clean, and product-free. You did everything right.
Then you put your jeans back on.
Here is the part nobody explains at most studios: your spray tan is not finished when your appointment ends. Your color keeps developing for a full twenty-four hours. During that window, your clothes are either helping your tan set evenly, or they are quietly pressing lines into it.
We would rather you know. Education is the whole point.
What to wear home from your appointment
Loose. Dark. Breathable. That is the entire rule.
The best possible outfit is something you would be slightly embarrassed to run errands in. Think oversized cotton dress, a long flowy skirt, a borrowed button-down, wide sweatpants, a maxi. Nothing that grips.
A few specifics worth remembering:
Dark colors only. Bronzer can transfer before you rinse. It washes out of most fabrics, but why gamble on your favorite white tee.
No bra if you can help it. Band lines and strap indentations are one of the most common uneven-color complaints, and they are completely preventable.
Flip flops or slides. Closed shoes trap moisture and rub the tops of your feet, which is where color sits most delicately.
Skip the leggings. Even soft ones. Compression plus body heat is the fastest way to get a crease line behind your knees.
If you booked a Clear Formula enhancement or the Incognito clear option, transfer is minimal and you have far more freedom here. That is exactly what those formulas exist for: brides, travel days, and anyone who cannot spend the afternoon in a tent dress.
What to sleep in the night of your tan
Loose cotton, or nothing at all.
Sleep is where most tans go sideways, because you are unconscious for eight hours and cannot manage the situation. Set yourself up before you get in bed:
Dark sheets you are not precious about
Cotton, not satin or silk, which slides and can drag color
A fan or the AC running, because you want to stay dry, not damp
Florida detail that matters: if you sweat overnight, moisture can lift developing color in patches. Sleeping cool is not a comfort preference here. It is aftercare.
What to wear after you rinse
Once you have rinsed at your personalized time and your color has set, the rules loosen. Wear what you want. This is your glow, your rules.
But two habits will meaningfully extend how long your color lasts, especially in our humidity.
Choose breathable over synthetic when you can. Polyester and nylon hold heat against your skin and trap sweat. Sweat is a solvent. Cotton, linen, and bamboo let your skin breathe, which means less friction and a smoother fade.
Rethink the tight waistband. Anything that rubs the same strip of skin all day, high-rise leggings, a stiff jean seam, a tight bra band, will exfoliate that spot faster than the skin around it. That is not the tan failing. That is friction.
And if you work out, you are not banned from the gym. Just shower promptly after, pat dry instead of rubbing, and moisturize. This is exactly what our Sweat-Resistant enhancement was built to handle. It dries faster and holds up through heat, humidity, and real Florida life.
The Florida fabrics that fight your fade
We live somewhere that actively works against a spray tan. Chlorine, salt water, sunscreen, and constant humidity all accelerate fade. Your clothing choices either buffer that or make it worse.
Worth knowing:
Swimsuits are fine. Chlorine is the issue, not the suit. Rinse in fresh water after the pool and moisturize immediately.
Athleisure is the sneaky one. It is the most-worn fabric category in this climate and the least friendly to color longevity.
Denim is not the villain people think. Just not in the first twelve hours.
Hydration-focused. Custom-blended. Sweat-resistant. Florida-proof. That is what we build every tan around, and your clothes are the one variable we hand off to you.
Questions we actually get asked
Can I wear a bra after a spray tan?
Not before you rinse if you can avoid it. Band and strap pressure is one of the most common causes of uneven lines. After you rinse, wear whatever you like.
How long after a spray tan can I wear normal clothes?
Until your rinse, stay loose and dark. After your rinse and first moisturize, you are back to normal.
Will my spray tan stain my clothes?
The cosmetic bronzer can transfer before rinsing, and it washes out of nearly everything. Clear formulas are made specifically for people who cannot risk it.
Can I wear white after a spray tan?
After you rinse and dry fully, yes. Before that, choose dark. If white is non-negotiable, ask about a clear option at booking.
What should I wear to my spray tan appointment?
Come with clean, product-free skin and bring the loose dark outfit you plan to leave in. We will walk you through the rest.
