What Actually Happens During Your Spray Tan Appointment

Nobody is nervous about the tan. They’re nervous about the room.

What do I wear. Where do I stand. What if I do it wrong. What if I say I want “a little color” and walk out looking like a different person.

Fair questions, all of them. And the honest answer is that the quality of your tan is decided long before anything gets sprayed. It’s decided in the first five minutes, in the conversation.

So here’s the whole thing, start to finish.

It Starts With a Question, Not a Spray Gun

The first thing you get asked is simple: what are we tanning for?

A wedding is not a girls’ trip. A photoshoot is not a Tuesday. A first tan before a beach weekend is not a maintenance tan in week three. Each one wants a different depth, a different formula, and a different rinse window.

Then the real question: light glow, deep and dramatic, or somewhere in between?

That one matters because “tan” means something different to every single person who says it. One client’s “natural” is another client’s “barely there.” Nobody can read that off your skin. We ask.

Everything after this is built on your answer.

Your Skin History Changes the Blend

Next comes the part most places skip entirely.

Do you burn or tan in the sun? That tells us how your skin behaves with color, and it points straight at your undertone. Warm, cool, neutral, or olive. Your undertone is the whole reason two people can get the same depth and one looks sun-kissed while the other looks tinted.

This is where orange gets prevented. Not at the end. Here.

Any recent sunburn? Burned or peeling skin will not hold color evenly, and we would rather move your appointment than hand you a patchy result.

Any allergies? Always asked, always before anything touches your skin.

We don’t do orange. Ever. That isn’t a slogan on a wall, it’s what this conversation is for.

What You Didn’t Love Last Time Matters Most

If you’ve had spray tans before, you’ll get asked what you haven’t loved about them.

Too dark. Too orange. Faded weird. Went blotchy on day four. Smelled strong. Hands looked off. Whatever it was, say it. There’s no wrong answer, and nobody takes it personally.

That single answer tells us more than anything else in the consult. A client who says “it always goes orange on me” needs a different blend than a client who says “it never lasts past day five.” Those are two completely different adjustments.

Expertise first. Beauty second. That’s the order.

Your Rinse Gets Planned Around Your Actual Life

Here’s the step that quietly decides how your tan looks on day three.

Your first rinse is water only. No soap, no scrubbing. But the timing of that rinse is part of the customization, not a number we hand everyone.

So you get asked: what actually works in your schedule? If you work early, we blend for that. If you can’t rinse until late, we blend for that instead. The formula and the rinse window get set together, as one decision.

You’ll also get asked what soap you use. Harsh, sulfate-heavy, or heavily fragranced body washes will strip color faster than anything else you do. It’s a two-second question that saves people days of glow.

Hydration-focused. Custom-blended. Sweat-resistant. Florida-proof. Half of that is built in the room. The other half is built in what you do after, which is why we plan it with you instead of handing you a card.

Inside the Tent

Now the part people actually picture.

What you wear. As much or as little as you want. Disposables are there if you want them. Plenty of clients wear nothing, plenty wear a swimsuit, and there is no reaction either way. It’s your call, every time.

The poses. You’ll be guided through every single one. Arms and legs away from your body, and you’ll hear exactly where to move. The machine runs a little loud, so if you ever can’t make out a word, watch instead. The poses get mimicked for you.

Two small things that make a real difference. Keep breathing, and avoid looking down while bronzer is being applied. That’s genuinely it.

You can pause. Any time. Need a second, need to adjust, need to ask something mid-appointment, just say so. Nobody is rushing you through this.

And before you ever step onto the brown paper, you get asked if you have questions. Ask them. Every one of them has been asked before.

Questions People Ask Before Their First Appointment

How long does the whole appointment take?

Longer than a booth, and that’s the point. The consultation is part of the service, not a formality in front of it.

Do I have to be completely undressed?

No. Wear whatever you’re comfortable in. Disposables are available. There is no version of this where you’re pressured either direction.

What if I don’t know what I want?

That’s what the questions are for. Tell us the occasion and how you want to feel, and we’ll handle the technical half.

What if I’ve had a bad spray tan before?

Then you’re exactly the person this consultation is built for. Tell us what went wrong. We adjust for it.

How do I show up?

Clean, exfoliated, product-free skin. No lotion, no deodorant, no oils. Shave or exfoliate the day before, not the day of.

Your glow, your rules. You decide the depth, the occasion, the formula, and the finish. We bring the standards.
